Our story
Born from the places no one talks about.
Song of Refuge didn't begin in a church office or a planning meeting. It began in a season of profound loss — when the words ran out and the silence felt unbearable.

The heart behind this
A message from our founder
I spent years in ministry watching people perform their faith — smiling on Sunday, falling apart on Monday. I was one of them. When my own world collapsed, I discovered that most spiritual spaces aren't built for the broken. They're built for the put-together.
Song of Refuge was born from that realization. I wanted to build something different — a place where grief is welcome, where doubt isn't a disqualifier, and where the most honest thing you can say is 'I don't know anymore.'
If you've ever felt too broken for church, too questioning for faith communities, or too tired to pretend — this was built for you. You are not too far gone. You are not too much. You belong here.

What we believe
The convictions that shape everything we do
Honesty over performance
We believe the most sacred thing you can bring is your actual self — not the version you think God or others want to see. Pretending is exhausting. We don't ask for it here.
Grief is not a problem to solve
Loss, doubt, and pain are not obstacles to faith — they are often the very path through which something real is found. We sit with suffering rather than rushing past it.
Belonging before belief
You don't have to have your theology sorted to belong here. Community comes first. Questions are welcome. You are welcome — exactly as you are, right now.
Ancient wisdom for modern wounds
We draw from the deep wells of contemplative tradition, sacred text, and the wisdom of those who have walked through darkness before us. Old truths for new pain.
Where we're going
A refuge that reaches further
Our vision is a community that stretches across geography — where someone in a rural town with no church that fits them, or a city dweller who's been burned by religion, can find a real home.
We are building toward retreats, in-person gatherings, and a library of teachings that will outlast any single season. But it starts here, with you, with this conversation.
We are not building an institution. We are tending a fire.
Come as you are.
No credentials required. No performance expected. Just you, and a community that will hold you.
